PBN was created when Pacific Dunlop Limited (PDL) purchased MMT Australia Pty Ltd in 1994.  This new entity was formed to take advantage of the emerging broadband activity in the Australian and Asia-Pacific regions.  As a result of a business re-focus by PDL in 1997, PBN was re-purchased by two founding members of the company.
